A Relaxed Two-Day Jaipur Itinerary for First-Time Visitors

Jaipur rewards travellers who start early and eat well. Two days is enough to see the headline sights without feeling rushed, as long as you group them by area.

Day 1: Amber side of the city

Reach Amber Fort by 9 am, before tour buses arrive. Walk through the Sheesh Mahal, then stop at Jal Mahal for photos on the way back. After lunch visit the City Palace and the open-air observatory of Jantar Mantar, which are next to each other. End the day at Hawa Mahal when the facade glows in the evening light.

Day 2: Hills, museums and bazaars

Begin with sunrise at Nahargarh Fort and breakfast on the ramparts. Spend late morning at Albert Hall Museum or Patrika Gate for photos, then shop in Johari Bazaar for silver and Bapu Bazaar for printed cotton. Dinner at a rooftop restaurant is a good finish.

Local tips

  • Visit October to March for pleasant weather.
  • Carry a scarf for temples and a hat for the sun.
  • Ask your driver to wait at each monument so you are never hunting for the car.
